Is Government ready for the Cloud?

12 July 2012

If you ask the leader in implementing cloud technology in local government, Sebata Municipal Services “Sebata”, then the answer is absolutely. Sebata has converted 22 of their 190 municipality and metro clients over to their cloud computing technology and this number continues to grow.

Sebata is a wholly owned subsidiary of MICROmega Holdings and has been the leading provider of integrated technology solutions, enterprise management systems and multidisciplinary professional services to municipalities, public entities and provincial government for over 40 years. Through a partnership with Turrito Networks, another one of MICROmega’s subsidiaries, Sebata is now embedding cloud technology into local government systems.

“The benefit of using our cloud technology is significant and this is demonstrated by the fact that in a very short space of time we have moved a number of our clients onto this platform”, says Dylan Strydom, Managing Director of Sebata Group. “Sebata Cloud simply enables a client’s environment, with the ownership of data remaining vested with the municipality”. “Accordingly, we do not insist that our clients dispose of their existing data servers or re- invest in new infrastructure. Rather, we encourage our clients to use their existing assets and we work within their infrastructure”.

Strydom adds “This all leads to reduced IT support and capex costs, less bandwidth utilisation, increased security and enhanced stability. In addition, we are able to deliver applications onto any device, which means that specific applications can be delivered onto mobile devices such as IPads. The overall benefits of cloud as a means to solving the inherent ICT challenges facing government are both obvious and significant.”

It is no surprise that the 16th of May yet again marks the dawn of a new era in solution providing to all our clients. It has been a long standing dream and vision from the hearts of Sebata management to have the complete suite of products we offer, available to all our clients at a fraction of the cost compared to acquiring these modules on a silo basis. With this vision in mind, one of the biggest challenges was having a product that is platform independent, accessible at any location, even at any remote site without compromising speed, simplicity, functionality and performance while utilizing a centralized secure data centre. This can be hosted locally, on full cloud solution or on a hybrid platform.
