The atmosphere was electric and energetic. The fans – mostly JGDM staff members clapped and chanted as one in support of their team.

On the 13th of June 2018, the JGDM Footballers played their first match in their official soccer kit sponsored to them by Sebata Municipal Solutions. Sebata, who currently services Joe Gqabi municipality by way of a Revenue Enhancement and mSCOA ERP implementation project, was proud to be a sponsor of this sporting initiative. They beat the Spanish Youth visiting the district by 6 goals to 2!

A second game was played on the 20th of June. This time, the Spanish boys showed some resilience and skill. JGDM Footballers stuck to their game plan and defeated Spain by 2 goals to 0.

The JGDM Footballers team was established on the 29th of January 2018. The players – all employees of Joe Gqabi District Municipality – wished to improve fitness and overall wellness and of course, they are all soccer fanatics! Friendly matches were played and the JGDM Footballers team showed great potential by winning most of these matches.

There was a need to establish an identity for the team and sponsorships were sourced to obtain a kit as well as soccer balls.

Sebata sponsored Joe Gqabi District Municipal soccer, netball and athletics teams.

After much deliberation and input from all staff members, it was decided that the JGDM Footballers kit should portray the gold colour featured in the logo of the District Municipality.

A 2006 study conducted by the Social Issues Research Centre, considered the impact of sport on workplace and found that 80% of men and 70% of women believed that workplaces could use sports as a tool to boost performance. Introducing sports to the workplace has the potential to improve health and fitness of employees. In encouraging staff to work together through sports, the organisation fosters a real sense of team spirit and camaraderie that is reflected in how they get on during working hours.
